Associate Director: Centre for Energy & Infrastructure - Holmesglen
Dr Ross Digby is the Associate Director for the Centre of Energy and Infrastructure at Holmesglen Institute. In this role Ross provides strategic leadership for all Electrotechnology, Engineering Fabrication, Civil Construction, Tunnelling, Industrial Skills and Workplace Safety courses delivered at Holmesglen Institute.
In addition to the strategic leadership Ross provides to the teaching programs, he is also responsible for the strategic leadership of the Victorian Tunnelling Centre, this specialist training centre is unique in its design and provides specialist training in tunnelling techniques utilising Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM), Road Header, Long Drill and Canopy Tube construction systems.
In addition, specialist training is also provided to a wide range of workers in the operation of equipment in restricted/confined spaces, including the maintenance of 7.2 m diameter TBM cutter head. This facility is regarded as having world’s best practice in tunnelling training and it was the first tertiary education in Australia visited by Anthony Albanese in his role Prime Minister of Australia in June 2022.
Ross also plays a key role at Holmesglen in the provision of leadership for applied research in the construction sector. As part of this role Ross is a member of the executive team as the skills and training lead for the Building 4.0 Co-operative Research Centre (CRC). This CRC is focused on undertaking applied research into the integration of Automation and the Internet of Things into the building and construction sector, including major civil construction projects. The CRC is a collaboration between The University of Melbourne, Monash University, Holmesglen and Queensland University of Technology.
With over 25 years’ experience in the Vocational Education Sector, Ross brings a wealth of experience in delivering the Education and Training solutions for major offshore training and workforce capability projects including the trades training centre at Oyu Tolgoi.
